Scott Macrillo - Doo-wop music on Rhapsody
Wed, 10 September2003 1:11:50 PM Eastern Daylight Time

Hi; I joined Rhaposody through Best Buy, I thought you get and burn all of the great doo-wop music you play on 365, but did not find any of the great stuff you play. Any hints on how to get this music on rhaposody or from you guys. I figured that all of your music would be in the rhapsody downloading system since the best buy insignia is right next to all of your songs. Thanks. Scott Macrillo

Hi Scott. Thanks for listening to my station! "Best buy" is a new feature at Live365. We are not at all happy with it since they don't offer any of the old doo-wop stuff. Hopefully Live365 will improve on this search feature soon. TIP: If you click on the songtitle itself in the Live365 player window it will still take you to Amazon.com just as it would with the previous "buy" button. It will come up "not found" most of the times at Amazon.com because it searches for the albumtitle and I've entered the original label-info as much as possible. So you'll have to redefine your search there.
Unfortunately there's no cheap download and burn option available. Have fun. GM

Nathan Humbard - Doowop Jukebox Gold

Greetings from Tennessee! I'm a deadly serious group 45's collector who just found your station, and it's the greatest--I especially am liking the original label and release number info that accompanies each song on the playlist. That info is making it much easier for me to go broke trying to find M- copies of the stuff you play that either I didn't know about, or just hadn't found yet..... See you at the poor farm! Thanks for a great station, Nate

Dale S. - Radio station
Wed, 20 August 2003 2:37 PM EST

Hi, I was able to listen to your station for awhile and now it's coming up "undefined" . I am still able to get the station "destination doowop". Do I need to start paying for the service or is it my computer? Help!!??!!!....

Hi Dale!
I don't know how you connect to my station but I'm having no trouble connecting. Perhaps I can help you better if you inform me about the way you connect. Deleting your cookies will work in most cases. Live365 has changed the player somewhat and that will only re-install if the cookie is deleted. By the way, there are several ways to listen to Doo-wop Jukebox Gold. First off.. you can go to our page at live365.com using this link: or simply go to Live365.com and search for "papaoommowwow" or doo-wop.
Click on the playbutton to start. If you get the wizzard just follow the steps suggested. Or, you can go to our site and click on the banner.
You can also use our custom made Real "one" player skins to connect. The advantage of using these skins is that Real Player has an equalizer which can improve the sound quality a lot.
If these options still wont work it could be that you are behind a Proxyserver or firewall that has streaming audio disabled. In that case configuring the Live365 player to play through (Windows) Media Player might work because that's sometimes not blocked.
Thank you for listening.

Earl Lilley - Song
Mon, 18 August 2003 8:06:03 AM EST

I heard a song on your program called "You Don't Love Me Anymore" by The Galls-Tones. Is it possible for you to send it to me?

Hi Earl! Thank you for listening to my station. Unfortunately the rules at Live365.com do not allow for sharing the songs and playlists. We do not issue cd's or albums. However, if you click the buy button placed behind each song it will take you to amazon.com to browse their collection. You need to redefine the search there since most of the time the original records that I've entered wont be found. You can also go to www.allmusic.com to search for the latest albums that have your fav. songs or artists on it, or check out CDBBQ.com to get the original record. Bye,
GM

Robert Koetke - DooWopJukeboxGold

Hi, I absolutely love your station and your vast collection. As a former DooWop DJ in college many moons ago I appreciate all the time and care that you obviously have put into your show. I was wondering about three titles, "Guided Missiles", "Valerie" possibly by the Starlights or something like that, and a very obscure song "you're on Top Now" by the Untouchables. I would love to here these songs and if you could, please let me know if they are on a CD. I will be blown away if you have the song by the Untouchables. Happy playing and please answer this email. Thanks Robert Koetke

Hi Robert! Thank you for listening to Doo-Wop Jukebox Gold! The Songs you mentioned (for as far as "Guided Missiles" and "Valerie" are concerned) are in my playlist and for some time now play on DWJBG. "Guided Missiles" by the Cuff-links from 1957 was issued on the Dootone label and I have "Valerie" playing by the Starlites from 1960 which can be found on the DooWop Box disk II. (there's an other "Valerie" on my playlist by the Mello-Kings from 1958 on the Herald label). The song "You're On Top Now" by the Untouchables is unknown to me but at the AMG allmusic guide I see it's on Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures: "Taken From Our Vaults, Vol. 1". I will most certainly start looking for it now! Thank you for your kind words. It's most rewarding to hear from your peers. Bye, Papa

"Bill and Lynn" - love your station
Tue, 3 Jun 2003 13:59 EST

I discovered live365 a few weeks ago and have been enjoying your broadcasts...almost exclusively. This is the music I grew up with (I'm pushing 60 and was raised in northern NJ). I have many of the songs you play on 45's, albums (the complete Gus Gossert set among others), and CD's, and have been thinking about joining you as a broadcaster. Can you advise if it is difficult? Although I can operate a computer I'm not a real techie and have very little experience in this kind of thing. Any words of advice would be appreciated. Also, how many different songs do you use for your broadcasts? Keep up the good work!! Bill

Hi Bill! Thank you for your support. We welcome all new broadcasters at live365 even when starting a broadcast in our own genre. Mind you, it won't be easy to get tot the top, it takes a lot of promotion and effort but it's a wonderful thing to be able to share your music with the world! Especially with your music library you could make some very interesting broadcasts and fill a niche. Currently I have 809 tracks in my playlist and are constantly refreshing and swapping different playlists. It takes 450 MB of diskspace at Live365. (Being a founding broadcaster sure has its advantages). All tracks are adjusted to a similar soundlevel and trimmed in order to get a stream without any pauses.
With a playlist of 800+ tracks it would be unwise to add a song only once, it would play only one time in 26 hours while most listeners only listen for about 1 hour! Just add them 3 times and randomize the playlist so you get a nice mix. I broadcast at 32kbps Mono since this gives a better sound quality then 32kbps stereo and it still allows listeners with a slow connection to listen without disruptions. If you have already started you will have found the Studio 365 and Studio 365 Loader for converting and uploading your tracks. If not you can download it from Live 365.
To learn more about broadcasting at Live365 check out this link. Looking forward to check out your broadcast. Have fun!

Andy Romanczuk - Too many pop-ups
Sat, 31 May 2003 12:24 EST

I am writing to let you know that I have removed your program from my computer. I love your format and the great tunes you play. However, the constant barrage of pop-ups has finally reached the point of total saturation and distraction and is too much for me. I refuse to pay for your preferred membership, there are too many other totally free radio stations such as doowop.net, the doowop cafe, etc for me to pay to hear this songs. Andy Romanczuk

Hi Andy, I'm sorry to see you go! Sure hope you will be back once in a while. The continuous barrage of ads is a real plague I know!
Really, I hate those pesky po-ups too but according to Live365 it's necessary to keep this service up and running certainly since we now pay all royalty fees as demanded by congress. It's 0.07 cts per song - per listener!! I don't see terrestrial radio paying per listener.
I can recommend using a free pop-up stopper which you can download from www.panicware.com Backdraw is that it blocks everything, that is, including all 'new windows' that some sites will open via their links. Therefore it comes in handy that you can choose to block or unblock the pop-ups by simply double-clicking the icon that's placed in your system tray. Please try it. I hope you will be back soon!
